Red Road Butterfly
Susan Stockwell recycles everyday materials to comment on issues of ecology, geo-politics, and global commerce. Maps allow her to identify society’s networks of power and communication.
Stockwell has exhibited across the globe and participated in displays at major institutions including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the National Museum of China in Beijing, the Manchester City Galleries in the UK, and the Katonah Museum of Art in New York, USA. She teaches extensively and has completed residencies and projects worldwide.
For The House of Fairy Tales Cartography her image Red Road Butter y is the latest in a series of works that reimagine roads as the crucial life source of a city, allowing people and goods to ow in and out, sustaining it; the butter y reveals the city as something fragile, but with a life of its own.
