The Map of Liberty
Ink & Gouache
Adam Dant has created a depiction of a fictional map of Paris personified as the figure of Liberty. Here Paris is triumphal, glorious and female. But she is also sideways, warped and flayed with streets and boulevards.
Constructed from an armature of the Paris Street plan this Liberty bends to the will of the people as manifest in their capital to embody their concrete history. The image comes from the series From the library of Dr. London in which several of the world's cities are personified according to their inhabitant's daily lives, common history and civic identity.
